"If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward."
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"I learned patience, perseverance, and dedication. Now I really know myself, and I know my voice. It’s a voice of pain and victory."

Performing at Will Rogers Coliseum tonight(!) as part of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Grand Entry Gala. Pretty excited to perform in such a legendary place and to open up for Big & Rich also!
Should be a fun night! Thanks Junior League Fort Worth!
I am in the midst of planning my next recording project. What I am struggling with is trying to be more honest, for lack of a better word, in my final product.
In the past I have made a lot of effort to copy other folks’ sounds, or to try and do some things better than others have, and while some of those attempts may have garnered some new fans, I feel like they weren’t my best effort. Many of those songs could’ve been written by anyone, and frankly many of them seem fairly amateur and cliche.
It’s a tough line to walk: I want to sell records, since working as a musician is my full-time profession. I need to sell songs and albums to make ends meet, but at the same time I worry that what I put out there will sound bland, and that it won’t be a reflection of who I am as an artist.
What I need to realize is that selling records isn’t the only goal of my music, but rather connecting with others is. I need to trust that the songs I write “honestly” will be able to connect my heart and mind to those of others. I need to trust that this “honesty” will be sufficient to pay the bills.
I want my music to not only entertain but to be an encouragement to those who need it in some way. I want people’s hearts to find a companion in the music and then find a friend in me.
Though some of that may happen anyway, I think it’s wrong of me to expect others to be open and honest with me when my words and songs and actions aren’t fully open and honest with them.
Trying out a new layout for my tumblr page. I like the simplicity of it. Thanks to everyone who checked out my cover video that I posted earlier today. I’ve received lots of great feedback which meant a lot to me!
